This guitar part bounced around my brain forever. I was humming it upon waking at around 3am as I often do; Tossed it into a voice memo.
The tricky thing was finding the exact chordal flavor that I could hear in my head, but the part was damn near impossible to play for awhile. I'll never understand how you can hear something completely foreign in your own imagination.
Anyways, I got the guitar part tracked and started working on the song. While the music was screaming for a gushy love song, I just couldn't do it. Paraphrasing something Jason Mraz said about a test of a good song is, "It's got to be something you'd want to play night after night".
Over a few days the lyrics started flowing and I managed to make it a non-relationship style love song, something that could be about a friend or loved one. I'm super proud of making this a universally relatable poetic piece. Another bonus is I could see this song being used in film or advertisement, because it fits so many themes this way.
Production wise, It's fun to take something that could be slow and drop a beat to juice up the energy.
